Self-Awareness Strategies

Happy Fourth of July and Happy Birthday to my mother, Ms. Hattie B. Weems
To help us understand our self-better let us look at a couple of Self Awareness Strategies (remember these are just suggestive techniques to help us accept and understand our unique image in Christ.
Strategy 1-Quit treating your feelings as good and bad
-When we judge our emotions, it keeps us from understanding what we are feeling.
-By allowing ourselves to sit and feel our emotions, we can become more aware of our feelings and what is causing them.
-Passing judgement on whether we should or should not be feelings, prevent us from originally feeling and allowing the feelings to run its course.
-Try to immediately notice what is going on versus labeling them good or bad.
-Try to remember that our feelings are there to help us understand something important.
Strategy 2-Lean into discomfort
-Instead of avoiding feelings, our goal is to move towards them and through them
-ignoring feelings do not make them disappear. It just causes them to re-surface again when we least expect them.
-Confronting our feelings makes us stronger
-Dealing with “emotional mistakes” (decision made when emotional), can be seen as learning lessons.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3: 5-6).
